New Additions!

And soon to be many more!

Yesterday, I went to the petstore to pick up my first three female mice, brought them home, set them up in their cage, watched them play for awhile.. And lo and behold, one of them is pregnant! Though not immediately noticeable at the store, her baby bump is making itself very well known now, when she stretches as well as in pictures. Joy joy.

So for the time being, she has been separated from the other three girls and placed in a nursery tank until she either gives birth... or doesn't. It's hard to completely sure with such small creatures, but I'm confident enough to have separated her into her own tank.

Will keep you updated!

Meet Milo!

Milo is my newest addition, a 3/4 mini rex 1/4 holland lop mix with a rex coat (and let me tell you, I love his rex coat, it's sooo soft to the touch.)

I got him at 8 weeks old, and he's now almost 10 weeks. He's doing amazingly well with litter box training, considering he's not neutered yet (he will be at six months) and eats, drinks, and plays like a champ. I was worried when I first brought him home, because he barely moved, but that's gone now and his personality has really started shining through. Needy and bossy, if you were wondering.

He had his first excursion from the cage today and he loved it! Racing around the room and investigating everything.

Balancing Act

Inspired by Buddy's balancing on the arm of the couch to get my attention if he thinks I'm ignoring him, I decided to see if I could get him to do that on other objects. Success!

Not sure when this could prove useful, but it's cute, right?

Welcoming Summer

Summer has come in full swing and Buddy and I are taking full advantage of it. I dug his kiddy pool out of the garage and filled it up for him in his outside play area, bought some new toys to play fetch with, and got him a new harness to replace his old one. (With any luck, he'll have a webmaster before too much longer. Here's hoping I can budget it in!)

On top of using it as the biggest water bowl he's ever seen, he loves to bite the water and dig in it like it's dirt. Unfortunately don't have any pics of that, as my phone is my only camera right now and I didn't want to risk it's electronic life with my pup out there splashing around.

A Dip in Disc

Buddy and I are trying something new--Disc! Right now I'm simply trying to build his excitement for the disc with a cheap dollar store buy, while I look into buying official discs (think Hero Disc or Hyperflite) Which is more complicated than it sounds, apparently. I think I'm going to buy just a few different kinds to try.

One fallback I've already found is that there doesn't seem to be an active group anywhere in Alabama. I found one group that had a website and everything, but from what I could tell, they haven't done anything in a long while. The "Next Event" listed on their site is one for October, year unlisted. So who knows.

No idea if we're going to actually go anywhere with this, but we'll see I suppose!

Bath Time

Have I ever expressed to you just how much Buddy hate's baths? No? Allow me to show you.

Oops.. Flash was too bright.
Looking appropriately miserable.
Somehow looking even
more miserable.
Squeaky clean and still too mad
to look at me!

Sophie Saturday

Her favorite sleeping place. Of course, everytime I get up to take a pic, she wakes up and watches me.

Yes, our couch is old and tearing up.
We really need a new one.

Time Flies

Buddy is two years old. Two. Let that sink in for a minute, because it totally caught me off guard.

Now, I don't know his exact birthday, having picked him up from an oops litter from a woman who seemed more interested in getting her $20 than anything about the puppy. In fact, when we got him, we were in a parking lot, he was in her hatchback, and the laundry basket she'd put him in had apparently tipped right over and was residing on the top of his head. Hmm.

I do find that I'm enjoying him now more than when he was a puppy. Much more mellow (still goofy, but not crazy) and we have a working relationship now that means he picks up on what I'm trying to train or teach much faster. Of course he still has moments where he drives me nuts, but I'm definitely liking this better than 8 weeks to one year old.

I'm planning on a little celebration on his gotcha day (March 8) as well!
